Exercise Lifestyle Clinic
Dr Michael Psarakis
exerciselifestyleclinic@acu.edu.au
Dr Michael Psarakis is an Exercise Physiologist and Lecturer in Exercise Physiology. After completing his PhD, he has been working on improving people's health using exercise as a form of medicine. Specifically he has been working for over 10 years using exercise as medicine within cancer survivors.
Many patients being treated for cancer often think it is important to rest, however, there is a large body of evidence that supports the use of exercise for all cancer patients to help manage the effects of cancer and its treatment. In fact, the research is so convincing that exercise should be prescribed to all cancer patients as a standard part of their cancer care/treatment plan. Being active can help manage common side effects of treatment (such as fatigue), speed up recovery and improve quality of life. Being active along with eating a healthier diet can reduce the risk of the cancer coming back for certain types of cancers. It also reduces the risk of developing further health complications associated with being sedentary.
